NOTICE TO ALL TOWN OF HARRIS DOG OWNERS: Pursuant to Section 174.052, Wisconsin Statutes, notice is hereby given to ALL DOG OWNERS in Marquette County, those rabies vaccinations and dog licenses are required under the statutes. Marquette County has also modified the Animal Ordinance (Chapter 53) on April 5, 2018 by County Board Supervisors. Kennel is now defined as “any person harboring five or more dogs over the age of 5 months or any premises wherein any person engages in the business of boarding, breeding, buying, letting for hire, training for a fee or selling of dogs”. Animal owners with 3 or more dogs are required to obtain a kennel license per Town of Harris Ordinance No. 1-96. New kennel owners with 5 or more dogs are encouraged to contact the Local County Health Department at 608-297-3135 for their “no charge” initial inspection. Only new kennels will receive an inspection from the Health Department but retain the ability to re-inspect if there are complaints or concerns related to animal welfare. The initial sanitary inspection of the premises is to ensure that the conditions outlined in Chapter 951, Wisconsin Statutes are met. The applicant must present current certificates of rabies vaccination for all dogs at time of inspection. Any kennel requiring a conditional land use permit from County Zoning is required to obtain approval.

Vaccination by a veterinarian against rabies of all dogs is required (Section 95.21[2] within 30 days after the dog reaches 4 months of age and re-vaccinated within one year after initial vaccination. Older vaccinated dogs must be re-vaccinated when the certificate expires or within 3 years of the previous vaccination. Presentation of evidence of current vaccination must be given when obtaining dog licenses. Spayed/neutered dogs are $3.00 each; intact male/female dogs are $8.00 each. 3 or more dogs require a Town of Harris Kennel License, which is $35. All dogs 6 months of age or older require a license.

PENALTIES: A late fee of $10.00 shall be assessed to the owner for each dog six months of age or older who fails to obtain a dog license by April 1, 2024.
